The Olmec Ballplayer
Two stories in one, The Olmec Ballplayer intertwines the tale of a young Jewish couple escaping from the 900 BC sacking of Jerusalem, along with the present day story of a Canadian archaeologist tracking down that couple’s fantastic journey. This fast-paced adventure story takes the reader back and forth in time as each era’s protagonists, Rofa and Jack Cooper respectively, battle numerous rogues and overcome tremendous obstacles to ensure the successful outcome of their individual undertakings.
Rofa, whose Olmec name becomes Jaguar Fang, is fatefully delivered into the hands of these predecessors to the Maya nation. Because of the mighty weapon he wields and the skill he develops in the ballgame, he rises up to become a ruler of the Olmec. Jaguar Fang then struggles against the political scheming of his priests and governors to protect his family and ensure their survival.
Physically tough, inwardly gentle, former linguist with the Canadian Intelligence Service, Jack Cooper discovers something strange in Labrador that eventually leads him to Guatemala and a fateful encounter with Yum Kaax—the Maya Jungle Lord. Along the way, his ex-wife makes sure he doesn’t succeed in winning over his latest love interest, but hopefully Jack will best his adversaries and recover Jaguar Fang’s unique weapon.
